Bangkok – May 7, 2009 – Following a phenomenal success operating Shopping.co.th over the first two years, Sanook.com has recently announced a next step towards expanding its partners’ distribution channels. By partnering with Thailand’s leading publisher Nanmee Books to open an online bookstore at www.shopping.co.th/nanmeebooks, the company considers that the distribution alternative could enable it to address the needs of new-generation readers, and most importantly provide its business partners with more business opportunities.

“The shopping site is scoring success only after two years of operation and it has gained unexpectedly popularity among sellers and buyers so far with high growth potential,” said Veerawat Hongsitthiwong, Vice President - Search & Marketplace, Sanook Shopping Limited, who operates Shopping.co.th.

“Our unique shopping site offers extensive inventory. It is visited by more than 150,000 users daily searching 27 categories and 186 sub-categories of products and services, with approximately 200,000 new items added per month. Contributory factors in the success include the fact that the overall online shopping is rapidly growing, coupled with increasing trust and consumer confidence gained through the reputation and collaboration of Sanook.com and eBay,” he added.

He also explained, “The operation over the past two years is mostly focused on providing successful online business platform for individual sellers and buyers. Our next step, however, is to help creating more business opportunities, expanding distribution channels and supporting brand building for our corporate partners including major retailers and established brands. As part of the strategy, we have recently teamed up with famous home décor brand Propaganda and leading game developer C Plus to set up new distribution channel online. The most recent collaboration is Nanmee Books’ online store at www.shopping.co.th/nanmeebooks. It is expected to help both companies extend their reach to potential customers.”

According to Veerawat, selling books online has been considered one of the most promising approaches today. The advantage of partnering with Nanmee Books in this online bookstore project is that the publisher has a variety of book titles which are also matched with the needs of the website’s target visitors, mostly aged between 26 and 35.

Under the agreement, both companies share information essential for business development and support each other using collected data from their specialised perspectives. For instance, Shopping.co.th has expertise in developing e-commerce application, online payment system, and graphic design to make the shopping site more attractive and user-friendly. In addition, the company completely knows online consumer behaviors: who are potential buyers, what to be offered to them, and how and when they need.

As one of the country’s most prestigious book publishers, Nanmee knows what for whom, and when the company receives essential information from Shopping.co.th it can efficiently manage the book catalogue that is most suitable for specified target readers.

“This year’s book demand continues to grow, especially in health, encouragement, psychology and self-improvement categories as well as edutainment titles translated from Korean books,” said Kim Chongsatitwattana, deputy managing director, Nanmme Books Co Ltd. “We have also found that more readers are shifting from traditional bookstores to online bookshops, generating 30% growth per year.”

At www.shopping.co.th/nanmeebooks, Nanmee’s selected book titles are now available with special discounts and seasonal promotions. These cover a variety of subjects including edutainment cartoon, fable, fiction (for all ages), heath and encouragement. Discounts on selected titles are offered only at this shopping site.

“Special features include book previews, book review video clips, pre-order system, book interest matching and mailing list for instance,” said Kim.

“Despite the fact that we already have our own website, we are seeking new channels to respond to increasing book market demand. We believe Shopping.co.th provides us a promising, high potential distribution channel. It also enables us to extend our reach to target readers even fast and more efficient,” added she.

“The next step for Shopping.co.th is to help our partners increase their sales revenue and broaden online business channels by making the most of our Sanook.com’s network of most favorite websites: for example, posting product catalogue on the index page of www.shopping.co.th and www.sanook.com that will make featured products more accessible; or participating in promotional campaigns organised by Sanook! business partners.”

“This successful collaboration represents a big step ahead for us to create a bigger online business network spanning from home décor, books, cosmetics, to clothes and accessories” Veerawat concluded.

From now until May 31, readers can enjoy 15% discount and free one book for every purchase of 800 baht. In addition, anyone purchasing “Girls and A Doll,” the latest work of ‘Dr Pop’ Thawara Siripipat, who is Thailand’s most favorite youth fantasy and sci-fi writer, will receive his signed book. And for 100 first persons will be entitled to his Meet & Greet party.
